Written at nineteen, in hotel rooms and borrowed hours, on a computer that once ate an entire earlier version of it. The chapter titles were collected from mothers, sisters, strangers, refrigerator poetry, and a video-game magazine — the author wrote toward other people's words like a sailor navigating by other people's stars. The Moon, the girl, the butterfly, the eight ball, the ending: all his. Twenty years later, the man edited the boy. The boy's accounts are settled.

This jacket is interim and stamped as such. The true jacket is being argued about in the back room, which is how we know it will be good.
